The best photos from your night are on everyone else's phone

Will Gibson2 min read

Picture the best photo from the last wedding or party you went to. Odds are you didn't take it. A friend did — from across the room, at exactly the right moment — and you've probably never seen it.

That gap is the whole reason Partyreel exists.

The photos that matter are the ones you didn't take

The posed group shot is fine. But the photos people actually treasure are the candid ones: the toast that landed, the dance floor at midnight, the quiet moment in the corner. They're scattered across two dozen phones, and almost none of them ever make it back to the person they'd mean the most to.

The candid test

Think of your favorite photo of yourself from the last year. Now ask: did you take it, or did someone else? Almost always, it's someone else — which means it's sitting on a phone you'll never scroll through.

Why nothing quite solved it

We tried all the usual fixes, and each one leaks:

  • Group chats compress everything to mush, bury photos in a thread, and lose them the moment someone mutes or leaves.
  • Shared drives ask guests to make an account and find the right folder — friction that empties the album before it fills.
  • The pro photographer captures the formal shots beautifully, but can't be in six places at once for the candids.

The photos exist. There's just never been a frictionless way to gather them in one place.

What we're building

Partyreel is one QR code. Guests scan it, and everything they capture lands in a single shared album you control — no app, no account, nothing to install. Then we take the best moments and turn them into a highlight reel worth rewatching.

That's the whole idea: the moments that scatter, kept together. If that resonates, see how it works or start your first event — it's free.
